Pre-War German Forestry Dagger Set, by J.A. Henckels, Solingen, with scabbards, frogs, and gold-bullion portapee, consisting of a 16'' and 9'' etched blade stag-handled knife with nickel silver appointments, and small horn-handled fork. This matched set features clamshell guards, stag-leg crossguards, and acorn top nuts. Beautifully etched 16'' blade with mounted hunter and dogs chasing stag surmounted in scroll, acorn and oakleaf designs; reverse with mounted boar's head and polearms and similar oakleaves. Etched 9'' blade shows stalking hunter with rifle in forested scene; reverse with stag on decorative promontory point. Blades are also marked ''J.A. Henckels/Solingen'' and with their ''twin'' logo that dates back to 1731. Black leather main body to scabbard with nickel chape and specially designed throat, with added compartment for fork with acorn frog finial. Shorter scabbard is similar, lacking the additional compartment, with frog and retaining strap. Condition is fine. Longer blade shows areas of light pitting which detract little; smaller blade with lightly more extensive pitting which has been professionally cleaned. Scabbards remain in excellent condition. Frog shows crazing to leather finish at belt loop area. A seldom seen set of pre-Nazi era forestry knives with all accessories. Est.: $4,000-$6,000/set.
