Pre-War German Drilling, #375399, 16x16x9.3x72mm, 27'' barrels with 2-1/2'' chambers choked Full/Mod., top of game rib marked ''Gebr. Damm, Elberfelb''; chambers marked ''Fluss-Stahl'' (Fluid Steel), case hardened frame with medium relief German scrolls, pointer dogs and bugling elk scenes. Upper tang marked ''Treff/DRGM'', ''Treff'' being a reference to the club symbol in a deck of cards, which is analogous to the configuration of the barrel layout on Drilling firearms; ''DRGM'' is a pre-war patent marking which are not uncommon to firearms from this era. Watertable is marked ''Hubertus'', as well as ''(crown)/U'' proofmarks; bottom of barrel with ''(crown)/GUW'' proofmarks. Profiles of both shotgun barrels show nitro-proof marks. Drilling features double triggers, underlever for both releasing action and cocking hammers, cocking indicators, thumb selector for rifle barrel which raises single blade rear sight, and simple extractors. Condition is fine to near excellent, and probably dating from the very early 1920s. Barrel assembly retains approx. 96% slightly thinning Belgian type blue; receiver retains approx. 70% slightly muted case colors, with most of the thinning at rear portion of triggerguard. Stock with crisp checking and minor dings, with some worming to horn buttplate, and very small loss to left edge near rear portion of triggerguard. Action is tight, bores are bright. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (C&R)
