According to Colt's factory records (copy included), this revolver was shipped to Simmons Hardware Company of St. Louis, Missouri on 2 December 1904. Fixed sights with the two line, three date patent markings on the left side of the frame next to the Rampant Colt, blue finished hammer and trigger and a pair of smooth one piece ivory grips. The name "James J Wheat" is inscribed on the back strap; consignor notes state that James Wheat (1916-1989) was a Loving County rancher and spur collector who donated his large volume of top quality spurs to the National Ranching Hertiage Center at Texas Tech University in 1985. The collection included 920 spur pairs and singles and 119 bits. Wheat oversaw a 200 section ranch were approximately 300 oil wells were producing. He was known for driving Rolls Royce and Mercedes-Benz automobiles to move his heard of 300 cattle across his ranch.

Fine as refinished, showing 98% of the current blue with some mild handling marks and spotting. 60% of the case colors are visible on the frame, strongest in the low areas with a mixed brown forming overall. All visible markings are restamped or not visible at all. Grips are fine with some light age cracks and an attractive color. Mechanically fine.
