Pre-War Colt Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army Revolver
Colt Single Action Army Revolver manufactured in 1905. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with the "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" marking applied to caliber .44-40 Single Action Army Revolvers. The revolver has the Colt commercial blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and backstrap with casehardened frame, loading gate and hammer. The two-piece, black, hard rubber grips are checkered and have the Rampant Colt trademark in an oval near the top. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with: "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO. HARTFORD CT.U.S.A." in one line. The caliber designation "44" is stamped on the underside of the barrel just in front of the frame. The left side of the frame is roll stamped with the Colt three-date/two-line patent markings followed by the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. A "5" assembler's mark is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow. The inside of the loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "5508". A "4" is stamped in the hammer well above the firing pin hole. The serial number, "268155" is located on the bottom of the frame, the trigger guard and the backstrap. All of the serial numbers match.

Fine. The revolver retains approximately 70% of the original blue and 40% casehardened finish. There is some finish loss on the left side of the barrel and on the edge of the ejector housing, The cylinder retains most of the original blue finish. The trigger guard and backstrap have moderate handling wear. The casehardened finish on the frame, hammer and loading gate have faded to a silver gray with traces of case colors in protected areas. All of the markings are crisp. The slightly oversized correct factory replacement grips are in very good condition with light handling wear. They are inscribed "C. HANNAY 1949" internally. The action is crisp and functions perfectly. The front sight has been period altered to a target style configuration with a bead on the top of the blade. This is a fine example of a Colt "FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" Single Action Army Revolver.
