Pre-War Colt Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter
This Colt Single Action Army Revolver was manufactured in 1927. The revolver has a blue barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and backstrap, casehardened frame, hammer and loading gate and black, two piece, checkered, hard rubber grips. The grips are embossed with the Rampant Colt trademark. Left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER .44-40" in a single line. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line legend: "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO.HARTFORD CT.U.S.A.". The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt 'three-dates/two-line' patent marking followed by the Rampant Colt trademark on a frame. The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with a "3" assembler's mark over the Colt Triangle/VP factory proofmark. The inside of the loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "387". The serial number, "351081" is stamped on the bottom of the frame in front of the trigger guard and underneath the grips on the right side of the trigger guard and backstrap. The serial number is lightly etched on the inside of both grips. All of the visible serial numbers match with the rear face of the cylinder stamped "81", the last two digits of number "351081". The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, ".44/c" caliber, 5 1/2" barrel, blue finish, rubber grips and that it was shipped as 1 to Von Lengerke & Detmold, N.Y., N.Y. on September 10, 1927.

Very fine. The barrel and cylinder retain approximately 85% of the original blue finish with light-moderate edge wear on the muzzle, front of the ejector housing and cylinder. The backstrap, butt and grip strap are covered with light pitting and the trigger guard has much of the blue. The frame, loading gate and hammer retain nearly half of the spotty original casehardened finish with losses mainy on the right side. The grips are fine with one very minor dent on the heel of the left grip and along patch of flattened checkering on rear. All of the markings on the barrel, frame and trigger guard are crisp. The bore is bright. The action is excellent. This is a solid example of one of the last pre-war "Frontier Six-Shooter" .44-40 Single Action Army revolvers manufactured before WWII.
