Pre-War Colt First Series Match Target Woodsman Semi-Automatic Pistol
This is the desirable Colt First Series "Match Target" Woodsman pistol as manufactured in 1939. This pistol was the first in the series of the true match pistols that were produced as a more accurate Woodsman pistol. This pistol is fitted with the very desirable "elephant ear" elongated wrap around walnut grips with checkering and Colt silver medallions. These original "elephant ear" grips were fragile as the elongated bottom edges usually cracked and broke off, thus their survival rate is low. These series of pistols have the slab sided, medium weight barrel that is marked on top "COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A . / PAT. DES.110. 887" with the adjustable Kelly type blade front sight and adjustable target rear. The left side of the barrel has the large circular target with the words "MATCH" and " TARGET" above and below the target, next to "THE WOODSMAN" on the frame. The left side of the slide is marked "COLT", and "AUTOMATIC / CAL. .22 LONG RIFLE" with the Rampant Colt directly behind the markings. It has the correct two tone Colt Match Target magazine that is marked on the bottom "COLT WOODSMAN / CAL. 22 L.R. / MATCH TARGET MOD."

Excellent. The pistol retains at least 97% bright original blue finish with some thinning on the muzzle, some high edge wear and thinning, and light spotting on the backstrap. There are a few very light scratches on the top of the slide. The grips are solid and excellent with a few minor dings and scratches, and crisp checkering. The markings are sharp and clear. The action is excellent.
