This is a solid example of a pre-war Mauser Banner Portuguese contract commercial Luger. These Lugers were termed a 1935/06 model based on using the 1906 style frame, but produced in 1935. Consequently this model has the 1906 old style frame with grip safety, no stock lug and fast taper barrel. These were made specifically for the Portuguese "Republican National Guard" consequently the top of the chamber area is marked "GNR" for Guarde, Nationale Republicanie. There were a total of exactly 564 of this model manufactured and this one is a fairly early version as the reported serial numbers are "1921v" to "2484". The chamber as noted carries the intertwined "GNR" markings with the Mauser Banner on the front toggle. The left side of the barrel extension and underside of the barrel has a small "Crown/U" firing proof and it numbered is in the military manner with the full serial number (1934) on the frame, underside of the barrel and barrel extension. The various small parts have the last two digits of the serial number (34) marked on the outside of the parts. This model also has the extractor and safety area marked: "CARREGADA" and "SEGURANCA" respectively. It is complete with one original unmarked nickel plated magazine, with unmarked aluminum base.

The slightly undersized replacement grips are in fine condition with nice checkering on both sides with the left side have been lightly refreshened.
