Pre-War 1906/34 Portuguese Mauser Banner Contract GNR Luger
This is a fine original example of a late production Mauser Banner contract luger with the very desirable intertwined "GNR" logo on top of the chamber area. These pistols were virtually unheard of in this country until approximately 15+ years ago when a small quantity was purchased overseas and eventually imported in to this country. There were exactly 564 pistols produced in total in this contract run with the serial numbers being in the 1921v-2484v range. As noted surviving example are scarce in any condition and based on the condition of this example this is one of the best we have ever seen. These models were made expressly for the Portuguese military and have the 1906 style frame with no stock lug, fast taper barrel and the grip safety. The top of the chamber area as noted is marked with the large intertwined "GNR" logo of the "GARDE NATIONALE REPUBLICANE" (Republic National Guard) with the desirable "Mauser" banner logo on top of the toggle. The underside of the barrel and right side of the barrel extension has the small Crown over "U" commercial proof. They are numbered in the commercial manner with the full serial number located on the front of the frame, the underside of the barrel and the right side of the barrel extension. The breech block, trigger, take down lever, and side plate all have the last two digits of the serial number. They have the inverted "v" fixed front sight and fixed rear sight. They have the all rust blued finish with straw colored small parts with checkered walnut grips, and this pistol is complete with a late nickel plated magazine with an unmarked aluminum base.
