Pre-WWI Colt Single Action Army Revolver
This is a very fine example of a St. Joseph Missouri shipped Colt Single Action Army revolver with copy of Colt factory letter. The letters states that this revolver was shipped from Colt to the Wyeth Hardware & Mfg. Company in St. Joseph, Missouri, on July 8, 1905. The letter lists the finish as "Blue", the barrel length as 7 1/2" and the caliber as ".32/20". The pistol has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and backstrap. The frame, loading gate and hammer have a color casehardened finish and the two-piece, black, hard rubber grips are checkered with the Rampant Colt trademark in an oval at the top. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in a single line. The caliber "32 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is stamped with the Colt 'three-dates/in two-lines' patent markings followed by the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. The inside of the loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "5478". The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with a "5" assembler's or sub-inspector's mark. The full serial number, "268116" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. All of the visible serial numbers match.

Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: hard rubber
Serial Number: 268116

Very fine. The revolver retains approximately 85% of the original blue and 80% casehardened finish. Most of the wear is confined to some finish loss on the muzzle end of the barrel, the forward edges of the ejector housing, the refinished backstrap (looks to have had inscription removed) and the lower portion of the grip strap. The blue finish on the cylinder is thin with rotation marks. The frame, loading gate and hammer have approximately 95% of the original casehardened finish with strong case colors. The screws are free from screwdriver battering and retain traces of the niter blue finish. All of the markings are crisp. The bore is bright. The grips are in very fine condition with some handling wear on the checkered surfaces. The action is crisp and functions perfectly.
