You are bidding on a First Year of Production or Pre-Production New Model Ruger .41 Magnum Blackhawk Revolver. The revolver features a 6 1/2" barrel, six shot cylinder, walnut grips, and a blue'd finish. Ruger introduced the Blackhawk in 1955. Chambered for the .357 Magnum, the Blackhawk was a simple and strong design, and it sold well. In 1956, as Smith & Wesson was introducing the new .44 Magnum, Ruger quickly developed a variant of the Blackhawk in the new cartridge. Ruger achieved wide popularity with this firearm in a hotly anticipated new cartridge, which was both cheaper and more readily available than the Smith & Wesson Model 29 revolver. It is chambered in .41 Remington Magnum which famed shooter Elmer Keith and lawman Bill Jordan persuaded Smith & Wesson and Remington to develop the cartridge in 1963. The .41 Magnum saw law enforcement use in the Smith & Wesson models 57 and 58. It found favor in San Antonio, San Francisco, Detroit. and in many North Carolina jurisdictions. While it’s easy to understand how the bigger .41 surpasses the .357 Magnum in power and performance, how it stacks up against the bigger .44 Magnum is misunderstood. Their differences are not as big as one might think. The .44 Magnum is actually .429 caliber where as the .41 is a true .41 caliber. Many ballistic tables show the 41 outperforming the .44 in velocity, energy and penetration depending on bullet weight. The .41 Magnum recoils noticeably less than the 44. Less powder, lighter bullets, and lower pressures make for a more pleasant shooting experience. This is a interesting Ruger New Model Blackhawk example in .41 magnum, the serial shows that this is a pre-production or very early first year production 1973 revolver. The condition of the revolver is very good, with some slight holster wear on the muzzle. The mechanics are tight and in good condition. The finish shows a 90%+ condition. This is a modern revolver. FFL transfer or NICS background check required. The serial number is 41-01394.
