Pre-Custer Springfield Armory Model 1873 Trapdoor Single Shot Carbine, #10155, .45-70 cal., 22'' barrel, blue and case hardened finish, walnut stock. Rear sight is the Model 1873 stepped pattern 500-yard base. High arch breechblock is marked ''Model/1873/(eagle)/(crossed arrows)/U.S.'' Lockplate is stamped ''(eagle)/U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873''. The barrel is correctly unmarked. Left side of the long-wrist stock is marked with the ''ESA'' cartouche, and a script ''P'' proof is stamped behind the triggerguard tang. Barrel band is the later type with a stacking swivel. Buttplate is correctly without a trap and is marked ''US'' on tang. There is a sling bar with ring on left side of stock. Mfg'd 1874. Condition is very good with the blue finish having turned to patina overall with some surface corrosion remaining. Stock is in very good condition with the appropriate bumps and bruises commensurate with age. Action is tight, bore is strong with some corrosion remaining mostly near the middle.
