Manufactured from a single piece of solid, translucent jade in a color called "Olmec Blue," but more likely dating to the Proto Mayan Period, ca 500 - 100 B.C. With tapered end, sharpened blade and rounded edges, would have been worn on belt around the waist of a very important member of society. 8-1/2"L, intact/excellent with tiny nicks to edge and a stable/internal crack. **For a very similar example, see Sotheby's Auction, NYC, 11/11/04, Lot 237, which sold for $15,600** Ex-private Colorado Collection.
