Stunning example of the wonderful artwork done in clay by the Nayarit culture of Western Mexico! Dating between 100 B.C. and 100 A.D., this exquisite example depicts a seated male completely nude holding a small rattle in his right hand. Ears decorated with elaborate ear-rings, large nose-ring and mouth opened to show a wonderful set of teeth. Covered with a nice beige slip, which now is nicely highlighted with manganese deposits and remains of white pigment at eyes, ears and nose. Measures a very nice 11-1/2" H x 8" W. In excellent condition with repaired break at right fingers else just about perfect! Very nice and highly desirable!
