Pre-Columbian Chimu (Chimor) Culture Pottery Bowls
Included in this lot are Two (2) Pre-Columbian Chimu (Chimor) Culture Pottery Bowls, circa 900-1470 AD. The largest bowl is Chimu black-ware, best known and most common in Peruvian pre-Columbian tradition. The black color was achieved by firing the ceramic under conditions of limiting oxygen, thereby generating soot that bound to the vessel surface. The pottery was burnished after firing to produce the shiny black surface. The smaller bowl is red-ware. The Chimú people are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery. Decorative designs have faded inside smaller bowl, floral and geometric designs are still visible on larger 3-footed black-ware. Minimal scuffing / chipping observed on either piece. Black-ware measures 5.5"H x 4.25" diameter, red-ware is 5" diameter x 1.5"H; total weight is 1lb, 2oz.
