Pre-Columbian Avian Figure w/Helm COA, pre-Columbian item. Made of basalt with metal stand, the item measures 15 3/4" x 9" x 1 9/16". Nicoya, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The item weighs approx. 9.6 lbs and has a custom-made heavy metal stand. Helm Certifcate of Authenticity. This pre-Columbian bird figure appears to have a parrot-like face with large eyes and a three-stepped feathered crest. Each arm also resembles a downward facing bird's head. The artifact has an overall pecked surface, including the bottom of all incised lines with patination. Some of the 1/4" to 5/16" circular dimples have a series of pecked rows across them, especially on the corner edges. Has a small 1/16" deep chipped area on front-bottom, inside-tip of the right leg and 3 scratches across front mid section, filled with a grey cement-like material. Possibly chipped upon discovery. Acquired from an affluent New York City estate. Condition: Good, some minor restoration, see images.
