Pre-American Revolutionary War Brown Bess flintlock musket, .80 cal., 42” barrel, wood stock, brass mountings, brass tipped wood ramrod in uncleaned, out-of-the-attic condition, the way collectors like to find them, showing a heavy dark patina on metal surfaces, dark bore, good action, good wood overall with scattered old mars, scratches and losses around the lockplate, some splintering along edges with the barrel, an old crack on the right side of the stock between the lockplate and the trigger guard; an old repair on the right top side of the stock next to the hammer. There are two small cartouches on the underside of the butt stock behind the trigger guard and what appears to be an inspector’s mark on the left side of the stock behind the opposite side of the lockplate; a classic looking Brown Bess from an old estate.
