Pre-64 Winchester Transition Model 70 Bolt Action Target Rifle
Manufactured in 1948 during the Transition period. The Transition period extends from late 1945 to 1951. This period saw an increase in yearly production to satisfy the growing demand for the Model 70. This particular rifle is an example of a Type 2 target rifle, the second and final version of the Model 70 target rifle. It is equipped with a bull barrel target stock numbered to another gun and rampless 24 inch barrel. The barrel is drilled and tapped for target blocks near the muzzle and breech. The receiver is drilled and tapped for sight mounting on the left side, with the top mounted with a pair of Leupold scope bases, and not cut for stripper clip. Standard markings including the factory proof on the barrel and receiver. The receiver has the early cloverleaf tang and the Transition safety. Single shot adapter follower. The barrel is full floated beyond the 2" of glass bedding in front of receiver (channel appears much larger than standard). Straight comb, pistol grip stock and a beaver tail forend with adjustable sling swivels. The bottom of the pistol grip is stamped "49068". The buttplate is checkered steel.

Very fine. Overall rifle retains approximately 97% dull blue finish with some speckling of gray on the receiver and some minor scratches, with some streaks of gray caused by the now removed sight mounts and target blocks. Customized bolt face, receiver face and follower. There is a chip and crack repair near the upper tang, otherwise the wood is fine with some scattered minor scratches.
