Manufactured in 1948. The serial number falls into the Transition period (late 1945 to 1951) when the .35 Remington caliber was introduced and offered for a short time (1944-1947), before being discontinued. The left side of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked "MADE IN NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S. OF AMERICA/-WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL- WINCHESTER/-TRADE MARK- MODEL 70- 35 REM". The left side of the barrel and receiver are marked with the oval Winchester proof at the breech and the left receiver wall is marked "WINCHESTER/-TRADE MARK-". The barrel is equipped with a ramp front sight (hood absent) and adjustable semi-buckhorn sporting rear sight. The bolt is un-numbered. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounts on top and a receiver sight on the left side. The rifle has a polished bolt, a hinged floor plate and is mounted with a one-piece checkered pistol grip stock with a checkered steel buttplate and sling swivels.

Serial Number: 95890
Condition: Professionally refinished, receiver, bolt, floor plate and trigger guard with 99% of the factory quality finish remaining. The barrel also retains 99% of the finish. There are only light overall handling marks on the metal surfaces. The stock is very good with a minor crack extending about 2" from the upper left side at the tang, overall minor dents, dings and scratches, and crisp checkering. The stock remains solid. With the exception of the proof on the left side of the receiver, the markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. A very nice Model 70 in the very rare 35 Rem caliber.
