Biography
Yitzhak Frenkel (Frenel), Painter (1899-1981). b. 1899, Odessa, Russia. Immigrated 1919. Studies: 1917 Art Academy, Odessa; 1926-29 Beaux Arts, Paris. A member of the French School of Artists. Teaching: 1920 Herzlia High School, Tel Aviv; 1926-29 Histadrut School, Tel Aviv. Prizes: Beaux Arts Scholarship, Paris; 1934, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1948 Dizengoff Prize, Tel Aviv Museum; 1958 First Prize for Lithography, Brussels; 1972 Prize for Painting Nudes; 1973 International Prize, Franch Riviera; 1973 International Prize, Deauville, France. Executed stage designs and costumes for Habima and Ohel Theatres. 1950 Participated in Venice Biennale. From 1960 lived in Safed, where a museum was opened in his name. Died 1981.
