Powers, Dennis M. TREASURE SHIP. THE LEGEND AND LEGACY OF THE SS BROTHER JONATHAN. Citadel Press/Kensington Publishing Corp, New York. 2006. 12mo. xv, 405 pages. Original yellow printed card covers. First edition. Uncorrected Proof. English text. Fine. This book recounts the history of the 'S.S. Brother Jonathan', a sidewheeler that sank off Northern California in 1865 carrying a large shipment of gold coins. It also tells of the struggle between the salvors and the State of California in getting a search permit approved and later a salvage permit, and the infighting between the investors. In the end, the lawyers were the real winners. Very well researched. Lot weight: 1 lbs 4oz. Subject(s): Sunken Treasure.
