<B>Human Be-In "Pow Wow: A Gathering of the Tribes" Event Poster (1967).</B></I> The Human Be-In event held on Saturday January 14, 1967 at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park kicked off the year of the Hippies. It was a prelude to the great "Summer of Love" and gave disaffected college students, aging Jazz hipsters, and young people in search of good times a chance to vent, all set to the music of the Bay Area's finest Rock bands (including Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane). Timothy Leary gave his famous "Turn on, tune in, and drop out" speech here, and the emergence of the Counterculture was the ultimate result.
