Poul Kjaerholm prototype lounge chair
Poul Kjaerholm prototype lounge chair Denmark, 1952 steel, halyard 24.5"w x 29.25"d x 28.25"h This prototype chair is an auction first. The form illustrates the beginnings of the architectural theme that guided Kjaerholm throughout his career. The sculptural qualities of the frame and halyard are complimented by the clear delineation of form. Created with only the sparest of lines, the chair becomes a study in structure and design. This is a prototype example of this chair, made by Kjaerholm for possible production by Fritz Hansen in 1952. Kjaerholm employed his friend Knud Holscher to assist with the metal work while the designer himself attached the halyard in his apartment in Denmark. Exhibited at the Copenhagen Museum of Decorative Arts in 1952, Kjaerholm adapted the principle of the open frame for the PK 25 that same year.
