Potosí, Bolivia, cob 8 reales, (1652-4)E, still enclosed in broken-open "biscuit" of oxidation. S-P37a. 54.8 grams. Certain silver coins from wrecks separate from their chests and slowly accrete tiny shells and other bits into their dark, puffy cocoon of surrounding oxidation, a phenomenon we call a "biscuit." This biscuit was carefully cracked open to expose the nuclear coin, which (slightly cleaned) clearly shows a post-transitional cross but little else. Recovered from: Capitana, sunk in 1654 off Chanduy, Ecuador.
