Postal Savings System, $1 Savings Certificate, Sparks, Nevada, 1940. The Postal Savings System was founded in 1911 to give patrons the ability to save various amounts from $1 to $100. Later the upper amounts were increased to $2,500, but few were able to afford that amount. These notes' popularity waned after World War II and this system was cancelled in 1963. Notes from small western cities are very scarce. Condition is like new. Ex. Smythe & Co., N.Y.C. Winter Auction #269, Dec. 15, 2006, lot 6246. Douglas McDonald Collection.
