This is a fine example of a late post-WWI commercial production, Model 1896 broomhandle Mauser pistol. The top of the chamber is marked "WAFFENFABRIK / MAUSER / OBERNDORF A/N" on top of the barrel, "crown / U" on the left side as well as on top of the rear section of the bolt, with the serial number marked on the left side of the frame. The left side rear of the frame is marked with the Mauser banner and the right side is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER / OBERNDORF A. NECKER". Fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight graduated to 1000 meters. This model has the later bolo style frame with the late production hammer that is marked with the intertwined "NS", (New Safety) markings. It is fitted with the standard 22 groove grip panels with a lanyard ring on the butt. Also included with this pistol is a replacement unmarked wooden shoulder stock/combination holster with an original attaching iron that is numbered to another pistol.
BBL: 4 1/2 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 7.63 mm Mauser
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 712894
Condition: Very fine, with 90% plus of the original blue finish. Wear on all the edges and high spots overall, with blue loss down the side rails of the barrel extension, the lower front and sides of the magazine well, the rear grip strap, and the raised muzzle area on the front end of the barrel. The stock is in very good condition with a nice even brown color overall with some very minor handling marks on the sides with a small crack in one corner of the lid, that shows an old repair.
