Post WWI 1896 Broomhandle Mauser Police 1920 Rework Pistol
This is an example of a WWI, 1896 Broomhandle Mauser "Red 9" military pistol that was reworked circa 1920 during the Weimar period for the police. The right side of the pistol receiver is marked: "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER / OBERNDORF A NECKAR." and the top of the barrel chamber is marked: "WAFFENFABRIK / MAUSER / OBERNDORF A/N." There is a Crown "U" proof mark located on the upper left side of the receiver on the flat below the serial number and directly behind that is a larger "1920" rework date stamp. The adjustable rear sight has been completely milled off and it is fitted with just a fixed blade on the rear of the base. The walnut grips have the large "9" burned into both sides that have been filled with red paint. The pistol has the standard arsenal rework rust blue finish on all the parts.
