<B>Post-Gettysburg Confederate Soldier's Autograph Letter Signed,</B></I> "<I>W. A. Hyman</B></I>", two pages, 8vo (4.75" x 7.75"), Hanover Junction, Virginia, July 16, 1863, to "<I>Dear Cosen</B></I>", n.p. but likely North Carolina. The letter reads in part: "<I>…the rest of the Brigade over their an it cut All to peacies one of the companys hant got but two men left Major Jones is in command of the Brigade We had a small fight hear the other night We lost one man kild the yankees lost a Good menney kild We taken som prisners I was right at the Big guns I tell you that We made the yankees holor…</B></I>". Slightly uneven left margin, very fine condition.<BR>Hyman, a young farmer, served with the 44th North Carolina Infantry. His regiment, formed in 1862, was heavily engaged in the fighting from mid-1863 until war's end. Hyman rose through the ranks to become first sergeant and was among the regiment's 70-odd exhausted veterans to surrender at Appomattox. <I>From the collection of Henry E.
