Post-Civil War LeMat Centerfire Breechloading Two-Barrel Revolver, #134, .44 cal./20 ga., 4-1/2'' octagon 9-shot top barrel and 4-1/2'' round 20 ga. center barrel, originally with blue and case hardened finish, smooth flared butt two-piece walnut grips. After the Civil War, in December of 1869, F.A. LeMat of New Orleans was issued Patent no. 97780 for a breechloading two-barrel revolver designed to use metallic centerfire cartridges. These breechloaders utilized a hinged hammer, two separate loading gates, and rod ejection, this example being very similar to Illus. 48 on page 61 of ''Firearms Curiosa'', by Winant. Considered quite scarce and highly collectible. Condition is good showing no original finish remaining, with light general pitting more pronounced at some areas of the revolving cylinder. Original grips have been cleaned and sanded and fit fractionally small. Cylinder indexes correctly. Loading gates and pivoting striker function as designed. Lanyard loop and ejector rod mechanism are missing. Frame screw is also a later replacement. Bore is fair to dark with discernible lands and grooves. Scarce in any condition. Est.: $4,000-$6,000.
