Possibly unique Durst patent, bolt action, magazine repeating rifle in 6.5 mm caliber circa 1890 to turn-of-the-century. The rifle measures 49” overall with approximately 29” barrel and remains in very good to near fine condition showing 80% to 90% blue turning slightly plum. The military style stock is very good plus with a couple scratches, mars and minor aging. A cleaning rod is included and there is a stud for a bayonet on the front band. The butt plate is made of aluminum and the rifle shows a great deal of handwork and may be a patent model. The action and bolt are both marked Durst patent and there is no serial number. The action is good, the bore is at least very good and may clean to excellent. John Haynes Durst was born September 18th , 1869 and died in 1930. Our consignor’s note places the vintage of the patent at about 1903 but this is unconfirmed. The rifle is very similar in style and design to a Blake. A unique feature is that the cocking knob on the bolt when pulled to half cock locks the action and bolt which acts as a safety. To release the safety the cocking knob is pulled back to full cock position. Est.: $1000-$3000+
