Biography
Michael Gross (1920-2004), Sculptor and Painter. Born in Tiberias, Israel in 1920. Studies: 1936-40 Teachers’ Seminary, Jerusalem; 1943-45, Technion, Haifa, architecture; sculpture with Moshe Fisher; 1951-54 Beaux Arts, Paris, with Michel Gimond. Teaching: 1957-60 Bezalel, Jerusalem; 1960-80 Oranim Art Institute, Tivon. Prizes: 1964 Herman Struck Prize; 1967 Dizengoff Prize; 1971 Gold Medal, Sao Paolo Biennale; 1977 Sandberg Prize for an Israeli Artist, Israel Museum, Jerusalem; 1987 Minister of Education and Culture Prize for Painting and Sculpture; 1995 Gamzu Prize, Tel Aviv Museum; 2000 Israel Prize together with Michael Bar Am and Moshe Kupferman. Environmental Sculptures: 1974 Kiryat Hayovel, Jerusalem; 1980 Kibbutz Messilot; 1882, 1985 Tel Aviv University; 1996 Tel Aviv Museum, "Trio". Died in November 2004.
