More than 50 years ago the world held its breath when the first men took off into space. The Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin went to his sensational space flight with his space ship Wostok and orbited the earth exactly once in 106 minutes. Gagarin was celebrated as hero of the Soviet Union after that. This portrait photography shows him wearing his uniform. He signed it at the right margin. The photograph comes with a typewritten and autographed note by Sergei Koroljow’s wife Nina or his daughter Natalia Koroljewa with a quote of Gagarin saying: I was ready for space but not for stardom.

The framed photograph measures 36.8 x 26.8 cm. It is in very good condition with a few signs of age and wear. The glass is cracked.
