1898, Washington. Stock certificate for 5 shares. Orange/Black. Vignette of a spread eagle with a shipping scene in background at top center. Issuedto Louis Gerlinger and signed by him three times. Once on verso, as President and again on the stub. Louis Gerlinger, Sr. (1853 - 1948) a businessman in the railroad and timber industries in Oregon in the early 20th century. In 1896, Gerlinger organized and built the Portland, Vancouver and Yakima Railroad on behalf of the Harrimans. Two of Gerlinger's sons, George T. Gerlinger and Louis Gerlinger, Jr., managed the railway. In 1906, Gerlinger purchased the Cone Lumber Company, and renamed it Willamette Valley Lumber Company (WVLC). The WVLC would become Willamette Industries in 1967 and part of Weyerhaeuser in 2002. Signed by George T. Gerlinger as Secretary of the Railway. George T.
