This Porta ladies watch was probably manufactured around 1950 by the Pforzheim Uhren-Rohwerke GmbH (PUW). Porta was the house brand of P.U.W. The watch is fitted with a manual wind movement with 15 rubies and shows the hour, minute and small second. The rectangular case is made of stainless steel. The black dial is decorated with white, Arabic numerals and blued steel hands. The gray leather strap with buckle is probably not original.

The watch is in good condition with only slight signs of wear. The protective glass is slightly scratched. The bracelet has a few wear marks. The watch was fully functional during a short-term test, but long-term precision and regularity cannot be guaranteed. The case dimensions are 4.5 x 2.3 cm (with lugs). The length of the bracelet is 17.5 cm.

Pforzheimer Uhren-Rohwerke GmbH (P.U.W.)

In 1932, Fritz Wagner founded the Pforzheimer Uhren-Rohwerke GmbH. In 1933, the first men's wristwatch movement was launched, and the first women’s movement in 1936. During World WarII P.U.W. mainly produced time fuses. At the same time, a new men's wristwatch caliber with central seconds was developed in cooperation with the Junghans company in Schramberg and UROFA Glashütte. In 1945, the company was destroyed in a bomb attack. After the war, the master watchmaker Rudolf Wehner took over the factory. In 1948, he founded the independent company of the Porta watch factory. In 1950, both companies moved into a new factory building in Pforzheim. The P.U.W. developed to the largest watch manufacturer in Germany in the following years. Among the main customers counted ZentRA. (cko)
