Pore Lil Mose His Letters to His Mammy (Grand Union Tea Co., 1902) Condition: Incomplete. This is ranked among the five most valuable Platinum Age comics by Overstreet, and "Complete copies have become scarce," says the Guide. This strip, a satire of rural black America, was done by R.F. Outcault after the Yellow Kid but before Buster Brown, published in the New York Herald, and collected here. This collection holds the distinction of being the first comic book published by prolific Platinum Age publisher Cupples & Leon. This copy is missing the title page and the first scene, "A True Ghost Story," and the first remaining page has been glued to the cover. We think any collector will enjoy this copy's supple pages, and the vibrant interior colors are quite surprising for a century-old book! Outcault's art will be quite an eye-opener for those unfamiliar. Overstreet 2006 GD 2.0 value = $1,500.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
