Born Felice Peretti di Montalto (1521-1590) who served as Pope from 1585 to 1590. He was responsible for reforming the central administration of the church, instituting financial reforms to restore solvency to the papal states, completing Saint Peter’s dome and rebuilding the Vatican. LS in Italian, signed “Sixtus pp V.,” one page, 8 x 10, June 27, 1585. Untranslated letter to Giovanni Niccolo Piccinini Cannara regarding the invalidity of the will of his brother, the priest Benedetto Piccinino as the sole heir and a legacy for the benefit of this very Son of Marcello and had deposited his daughter Santa, which is contrary to the provisions of the Camera. Therefore, all goods of the said priest would be transferred to the Camera Apostolica and Giovanni Niccolo was obliged to pay even 200 crowns to the camera also. Letter has been inlaid to a slightly larger off-white sheet. In fine condition, with light folds and creases, a bit of light toning and soiling, and a few spots of trivial ink erosion to text.
