Pope Sixtus V Letter Signed as Pope.
Pope Sixtus V Letter Signed as Pope. Signed "Sixtus...P V" just beneath the last line of the letter, one page, 8" x 11", in Italian, circa November 1585. Born Felice Peretti (1521-1590), he was Pope from 1585 to 1590. Sixtus spent a large amount of money on the city of Rome, rebuilding numerous churches, beautifying streets, and erecting new buildings and monuments (often cannibalizing ancient sites for building materials, though). Sixtus left a huge surplus in the treasury by collecting new taxes, selling offices, and making loans. He reorganized the pontifical administration and limited the College of Cardinals to seventy. Very good condition with rough edges at the top.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
