Pope (1857–1939), born Ambrogio Damiano Achille Ratti, who ascended the papal throne in 1922 and issued encyclicals condemning communism, fascism, and racism. ALS in Italian, signed “A. Ratti,” on a 3.5 x 5.5 picture postcard of Leonardo da Vinci, May 22, 1911. Brief postcard to Dr. E. A. Loew in Rome, written from the Ambrosian Library in Milan. In full (translated): “I have received a copy of your ‘Paleographic Studies’ etc. Munich 1910 kindly donated by you to this library. I congratulate you on your good work and sign myself.” Ratti also addresses the postcard. In fine condition, with uniform toning, and a couple of light postmarks and pencil notations.
