Pope (1857–1939), born Ambrogio Damiano Achille Ratti, who ascended the papal throne in 1922 and issued encyclicals condemning communism, fascism, and racism. Hand illuminated apostolic blessing, in Italian, signed “Pius pp XI,” 11 x 15.25, bestowed upon Irene Casola, with a circular G. Felici portrait of Pius affixed to upper portion, neatly signed in the lower portion by Pius. In fine condition, with light curling to upper portion and some scattered light toning.
