<B>Pope Paul V Letter Signed as Pope.</B></I> One page, 8" x 10.75", in Latin, December 16, 1605. Born Camillo Borghese, Paul (1552-1621) was Pope from May 16, 1605 until his death. Trained as a lawyer in Perugia and Padua, he was a compromise candidate for the papacy when Pope Leo XI died in 1605. It was under him that St. Peter's Basilica was completed and the Vatican Library was improved and expanded. He is possibly most famous though for clashing with Galileo, forbidding him to publicly support the Copernican theory of the universe.
