Italian Pope (1881–1963), born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, who ascended the papal throne in 1958 and served until his death. As the guiding force behind the historic Second Vatican Council, John ushered in the most sweeping reforms the Catholic Church had undergone in centuries. Handwritten quotations, unsigned, one page both sides, 5.5 x 4, no date. As Patriarch of Venice, the future Pope John XXIII pens quotes in Latin from the works of Pope Gregory I and Lorenzo Giustiniani. In fine condition. Accompanied by a transcript on official letterhead by Loris Francesco Cardinal Capovilla.
