Conservative clergyman (1611–1689) who served as pope from 1676 until his death in 1689, during which he abolished sinecures and pushed for greater simplicity in preaching as well as greater reverence in worship. ALS in Italian, one page, 8 x 10.5, July 16, 1672. Untranslated letter written as Cardinal Benedetto Odescalchi. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, ink erosion and spreading to several letters, and a bit of mirroring to ink.
