Pope-Ballard 32-40 caliber single shot rifle with false muzzle, bullet starter, palm rest, double set triggers and mounted with John W. Siddle, Phila. Scope on Unertl mounts serial #2228 on frame. The barrel is marked rifled by H.M. Pope, Hartford, Conn. and is serialized #70 beneath barrel with star 7/7 and #4 for size of octagon barrel. The barrel is also marked 32-40 U and U proofed. The false muzzle starter is numbered 1933 and the starter is un-numbered and of brass body and fits correctly. The rifle shows double-set triggers, checkered wood inset in lever, perch belly stock, Schutzen butt, Venier tang sight. The bore is excellent; the barrel shows 80%-90% original blue just beginning age, the frame shows 70%-80% re-casehardened finish; stocks are good to very good; 49-1/2” overall with a 30” barrel.
