Bond has a vignette at top center of a mountain lake scene with pine trees. Green border and under print ($500), measuring 15.5 x 16.5.” Pony is located in the Tobacco Root Range of the Montana Rockies. It was named for Smith McCumpsey, one of the area’s early settlers (1860-1870) who was called “Pony” because of his small stature. The Garnet Gold Mining Co., owned by Illinois investors, and the Pony Gold Mining Co. began their operations in 1889 in the Mineral Hill district.
