Pony Express Founders Medals, 1960. 1) Struck at the US Mint in Philadelphia, with a small mintage of only 3,000 pieces, this silver medal weighs 4.2 ounces. The Founders Medal features Russell, Majors and Waddell, who established the Pony Express in 1860. This and the Termination Medal are the only official medals that commemorating the centennial. Colt's Mfg. Co. bought the last 1,000 and included them in the boxed sets of their Pony Express Centennial revolver. Round, 57 mm, uncirculated. 2) Same as above but bronze, 33mm, BU, in original Philadelphia Mint envelope. Douglas McDonald Collection.
