Hayes or Samuel Tilden would be the next president. Card has moderate wear and soiling. The dispute between the winner of the "popular vote" and the Electoral College was eventually decided in favor of Hayes, after he promised to remove federal troops from the South, and to end the progressive "Reconstruction" era.
