Poland - Commerative Medal, RARE. This is a unique commemorative medal which consists of a Antiqued silver plated tombac case (made in 1988) 92x58x11mm. On the inside of the lid is an ingraving of the street where the first mint was located in 1766 (based on an 18th century painting). Inside the case, there is a set of coins from the times of Stanislas August Poniatowski, the founder of the Warsaw Mint. Gold ducat with the King’s initial, silver thaler with the King’s portrait and copper grosz with the coat of arms of Poland. The bottom of the case is decorated with the King’s initials SAR (Stanislas August Rex) under the crown. We believe the coins are reproductions as they are fixed in place and the information sheet enclosed notes that “the originals of all coins were designed by Jan Filip Holzheausser, court medalist of Stanislas as well as the medalist of the Warsaw Mint. Only 300 medals were made.
