Poems by S. Rogers, Bookplate of Sir Robert Peel
ROGERS, SAMUEL. Poems. London: T. Cadell, 1834. 8vo. Full green leather, gilt embossed, raised bands on spine, red leather label is detached (but present inside), and author/title embossed on spine; inside cover edges gilt, all edges gilt.  The fourth flyleaf is inscribed "From the author," but without signature. On the pastedown: bookplate of "Drayton Hall / Sir Robert Peel Bart." On the third flyleaf there appears to be the signature of Peel's daughter, Julia Peel. Sir Robert Peel, 2nd Baronet (1788-1850), was a British Conservative statesman, twice Prime Minister (1834-1835; 1841-1846); Chancellor of the Exchequer (1834-1835); twice Home Secretary (1822-1827; 1828-1830); and considered the "father of modern English policing." Drayton Manor was purchased by Peel's father in about 1790, and came to him after his father's death in 1830.  Good. Fading and discoloring to leather, wear, but gilt is bright. The more recent owner's bookplate is also glued in, on first flyleaf. Red spine label detached. Slight foxing scattered throughout, about seven pages with dampstains at bottom,
