Playboy #1 (HMH Publishing, 1953) Condition: VG/FN. Wer
Playboy #1 (HMH Publishing, 1953) Condition: VG/FN. The magazine you see here started a publishing phenomenon, a success story that enabled Hugh Hefner to live in a mansion with 36/24/36 young women catering to his every whim 24/7/365. Blast it all, why didn't we dream up Playboy? This is the very first issue, a mag that hooked readers with a 1949 nude photo of Marilyn Monroe, but didn't insult readers' intelligence -- the interior features include jokes, cartoons, and pictorials, but also a piece by Ambrose Bierce, a Sherlock Holmes story by Arthur Conan Doyle, a jazz article, and an article commending college football's return to the one-platoon system. This issue is hard to find today, and while our offering has the appearance of having been read a couple of times, the only defects are some cover creases and spine nicks and a bit of smudging on the back cover, which you'll find on almost every copy of this white-cover mag. Note also that like most copies, this one has no page number on page 3. Any man between the ages of 18 and, well, Hef's age will want to give this lot his full consideration!

Shipping: Un-Slabbed Comic (view shipping information)
