Playboy #1 (HMH Publishing, 1953) Condition: FN. This issue started a multimedia phenomenon and made Hugh Hefner a household name. It's the very first " "Playboy magazine, which caused a splash by featuring some 1949 nude photos of Marilyn Monroe, but also held readers' interest thanks to a canny mix of features, including jokes, cartoons, and pictorials, but also a piece by Ambrose Bierce, a Sherlock Holmes story by Arthur Conan Doyle, a jazz article, and an article commending college football's return to the one-platoon system. The mag's introductory text says, ""If we are able to give the American male a few extra laughs and a little diversion from the anxieties of the Atomic Age, we feel we've justified our existence."" By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are alway
