Plateau Doll and Beaded Cradle,
deerkskin, with beaded red felt front panel decorated with floral motifs with purple petals outlined in dark blue seed beads, with darker green seed bead leaves; each flower with a central medallion of faceted brass beads. A mauve sun-shaped disk at bottom of panel, outlined in dark blue. The top of the cradleboard is decorated with a blue-bordered lane of yellow beads, surrounding a rectangular panel featuring an equal-armed cross of green, blue, yellow and translucent red beads against a turquoise ground. The doll (head and shoulders only) of buckskin with seed bead eyes and horse hair locks. Trimmed at the top and bottom with buckskin fringe, and with a deerskin hook for suspension on rear. Height of cradleboard 10.5" x 4.75" at top, tapering to 2.75" at bottom. Fringed strips each circa 4.5" in length. Deaccessioned from the Western Reserve Historical Society of Cleveland, Ohio. Leather soft and pliable, beadwork intact, old museum accession paper tag with number "547.374" stapled to hanging strap.
